Starlink Launches Satellite Internet Service in Senegal

Istanbul / Dakar — Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, has officially launched its high-speed internet service in Senegal, marking another major step in the company’s expansion across Africa.

The announcement was made on Wednesday via a statement on X, where the company confirmed that Starlink’s low-latency, satellite-based broadband is now available in the West African nation.

“Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet is now available in Senegal,” the company said.

Starlink uses a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to deliver broadband connectivity, particularly targeting remote and underserved regions where traditional infrastructure is limited or unavailable.

The Senegal launch forms part of Starlink’s rapid global expansion. The service is now active in more than 150 countries and territories worldwide, with Africa emerging as a key growth region.

Since 2023, Starlink has become operational in over 20 African countries, extending satellite internet coverage across both urban centres and rural communities. The company has positioned its technology as a solution to connectivity gaps that continue to limit access to education, digital services, and economic opportunities across the continent.

Starlink’s rollout in Senegal is expected to enhance internet access for households, businesses, and institutions, particularly in areas where fibre and mobile broadband penetration remains low.
